Quality and Craftsmanship

Outdoor Living by DH Builders - Custom Home in Bend, Oregon

DH Builders builds custom homes that are individual, functional, and well suited to life in Central Oregon.
Every home begins differently. Some clients come to us with an architect and completed plans. Others come with a property and an idea. Dave can step in wherever the project stands, helping connect clients with trusted architects and designers when needed and bringing a builder’s perspective to design decisions, materials, budget, constructability, and the realities of building in Central Oregon.
Once construction begins, Dave remains closely involved — coordinating the people and details required to carry the project through.

Custom Homes and Remodels in Bend, Oregon

Living Area by DH Builders - Custom Homes, Kitchen Remodels, Bathroom Remodels in Bend, Oregon

In addition to building from the ground up, DH Builders takes on select whole-home remodels, additions, and substantial renovations.
Whether it’s reworking a dated floor plan, adding space, improving the connection between indoors and out, or updating the parts of a home that no longer work well, Dave approaches remodeling with the same attention to detail and quality craftsmanship he brings to a new custom home.
Kitchens, bathrooms, custom woodwork, and finish details are often an important part of that work, considered as pieces of the larger home rather than separate from it.

Experience Matters

Dave began his building career in Central Oregon in 1993 and founded DH Builders in 2014. Over the years, he has built a network of architects, designers, subcontractors, suppliers, and craftspeople he trusts and can draw from according to the needs of each project.
That experience matters before construction begins as much as it does in the field.

Dave can help evaluate ideas, anticipate challenges, coordinate design and construction, and keep the many moving pieces of a custom home or remodel working toward the same result.
Thoughtful material choices, energy efficiency, durability, and responsible building practices are considered where they make sense for the home, the site, and the client.

The crew was fantastic. They were respectful toward my neighbors and were conscientious about not infringing on their property lines and privacy. They were diligent about following HOA rules and guidelines, highly communicative, meticulous about details, transparent with billing, and above all concerned about my happiness. We never had any drama, and a few unforeseen issues were handled immediately and efficiently. The subcontractors were all very professional, easy to deal with, and their work was excellent.

My new sunroom and deck are so beautiful…they exceeded my expectations. I wanted it to look like it always belonged to the house, and it does. DH Builders took my vision and created exactly what I dreamed about.

Thank you David, Keemun, Mickey, Josh, Dan, Nick, Zach, architect Tom Carson and Trevor from Fuse Design, and Carlos the videographer!

We needed repairs on a home we sold before closing and DH Builders came highly recommended by another contractor. The bid, work and communication and follow through was outstanding. Even the home buyer interacted with Dave which was reassuring to them in regards to completion and quality of the project!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Although our addition might be considered a small job, extending a too-small bedroom and adding a covered deck, it was huge for us! Thanks to Dave and his whole crew for giving us the space that we should have had when we first built our home in 2018. To show our confidence and appreciation, we referred two different friends for remodeling jobs that are under way.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our home is approximately 20 years old, and we have been doing lots of home renovations in order to continually bring our home up to today's standards. Although we had the original gas fireplace serviced annually, last year our serviceman told us we would probably need an expensive replacement part within the next few years. We opted to install a new more efficient fireplace with a new tile surround, and DH BUILDERS took on the task. What a huge upgrade! We were more than pleasantly surprised with the finished product. Dave and his crew were incredible to work with. We have bought, built and sold 11 homes in the past 30 years and worked with many constuction firms and contractors. DH BUILDERS are among the best. Dave cares about his work, employees and pleasing his customers. Every worker or sub who came through the door was polite, knowledgable and helpful. We have bids from DH BUILDERS for a couple of other projects. We just need to decide which one to do first!!

David and his crew have been immensely helpful in our ability to turn a house built in the early 1900's into our current modernized family home. He initially put a boxed steam shower in which I requested in an effort to save money, but when it gave out 7 years later, he and his crew were able to build a replacement within my current budget. I would absolutely use him again.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had the pleasure of working with David, Sean, Keemun, and the rest of the team at DH Builders on a major remodel project and they were great. We started our remodel right before the Covid pandemic impacted the global supply of workers and materials. As a result, DH Builders had to work through many unforeseen challenges and delays that were beyond their control. Throughout this difficult time, the team at DH Builders did everything they could to keep our project on track and on time.

While we did have our challenges, just like anyone else trying to complete a remodel during the pandemic, we knew we had a team of experts that went above and beyond to keep the project going. They understood the difficulty of what we were all experiencing and I don't think we would have had our project turn out as well as it did without them.

David and the team stand behind their work and will always do the "right thing". We would recommend them.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have used DH Builders on two major projects. A major overhaul when we first purchased the house and a subsequent remodel adding additional space for an enlarged bedroom, new bath and closet. Our experience was exceptional. We would use them again.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have engaged with DH Builders for several home remodeling and improvement projects for our Bauhaus-inspired modern house overlooking Shevlin Park. It is a special, bespoke house with unique architecture and use of many non-standard materials and systems. We knew we needed a very experienced, detail-oriented and professional firm, and we found that in DH Builders.

The firm puts client's needs first, and takes the time to understand exactly what it is we are wishing to achieve with our home renovations and remodeling projects.

We are impressed with the strong project management and communication skills DH Builders brings to each project, and the quality of the work is tip-top. We are never disappointed in any aspect of each phase of the work... scoping, budgeting, permitting, job start-up, the work itself, and clean-up are all well thought-out and executed.

We purchased the house a few years ago with the notion of making several key design+build improvements along the way to really make it a showpiece, to improve functionality, and to "make it ours". Working with Dave, Sean, Tom, Keemum and all the others has always been productive and collaborative. They bring to the table a no-nonsense, clear-eyed approach to each project, and their deep roots in the community assure access to labor, subcontractors, and materials to get the job done right and without drama.

We have completed projects that involved "all sides of the business" ranging from detailed architectural design by Tom and his team, to permitting, framing, fabrication at the shop, electrical, finish details, etc., directed by Dave and Sean principally. There is still some interesting work to be done at this house, and I know when we engage with DH Builders we will have a solid outcome. Highly recommended.
